Who Would I Be?

Who would I be if it weren’t for you?
Unhappy? I don’t know.
Would I have a different relationship with our mother?
Would I have one at all?
Would I be who I am today?
Probably not.
You taught me patience; you taught me kindness-
Virtues you yourself tested me on throughout the years.
You taught me to think of others, not just myself,
And that my pocket money was to be shared.
You are most likely the reason I didn’t ever go off the rails,
And your honestly keeps me grounded.
You were the first person I ever truly fiercely loved,
And till this day and forever will protect at all costs.
You are passionate, goofy, generous and sometimes downright annoying,
You’ve saved me more than you’ll ever know.
